and the book became as much of a success in the US as it had been

On his 11th birthday, though, Harry is told that he is a wizard and will soon be attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry learns the truth of his parents' deaths and of Voldemort, the dark wizard who killed them, and who also tried to kill Harry as a baby, only to have his spell backfire on himself. But Voldemort is not truly dead, as Harry learns in his first year at school. However, Harry has his new friends, Ron and Hermione, as well as the teachings of Hogwarts to guide him through his adventures.
